Our collection of handpainted lacquer boxes is represented by four different villages of this Russian folk art: Palekh, Fedoskino, Mstera and Kholui. Each village has its own unique and individual style. Palekh designs, for instance, are very stylized, influenced by their centuries old tradition of icon painting. Fedoskino, on the other hand, is more realistic and often has an especially luminous quality by the use of mother of pearl and overlays of transparent colors.
